The Saxon fortress from Viscri village is the oldest as well as best preserved of the country fortresses from Transylvania. The fortified ensemble is located on a small hill, apparently hidden by the surrounding forest. Its high location provides the advantage of dominating the area. The walls of the fortress protect the church inside- the roman hall built during the XIII-th century. Of that period 4 roman capitals have been preserved, one of them being used as a font. The base of the oval fortification around the church was built with river and field rocks while its upper part was made of wood. The ensemble comprises to defense ring walls and 4 towers. The entry is found on the south-eastern side, the tower having 4 stories.
